Work and life directions are being re-evaluated due to the Covid-19 virus disruption. It is a time of personal and professional transition. “In our go-go-go world, we rarely get the chance to stop and consider the big drivers of our happiness and our sense of purpose” [Brooks 4/20].

R. Reflect
Spend some time getting in touch with what really matters to you.
In 2021 when things are more settled, what would you like to do or have more of e.g. family time, or less of e.g. work travel?
- Enabling you to develop a Tomorrow Vision – that includes family, lifestyle, and work desires, altered or delayed dreams that has your values as its foundation. Like a jig saw puzzle start putting the pieces together.
- Do an honest career self-audit: identify your top three acknowledged strengths. What is the one area that lets you down, significant experiences and interests.
Identify which are your transferable abilities and dig beyond the job title, for example: flight attendants have high customer service skills, what are yours?
I. Investigate
Investigate, how could you re-purpose identified transferable abilities, experiences and or interests in a changing world through an emerging need, industry, gig or setting up a business. As a result of the virus impact some industries are contracting, while others such as those health related are expanding.
Are there courses; for instance, on-line, through TAFE or professional association, that will enhance marketability and overcome identified weakness to better position you?
The seed for change often begins in a crisis. Investigate what are the steppingstones that will enable you to create a purposeful tomorrow.
C. Connect
Networking is still the best way to find work. With so many people working from home reach out to previous connections, check-in on colleagues, and build richer relationships. Update your LinkedIn profile [strengths, courses, etc], and connect with other professionals in fields that interest you.
The purpose of these connections is not to ask for work, but to enjoy meaningful and mutually beneficial conversations. In time you might seek an introduction or hints on connecting with decision makers / hirers or those who might have relevant industry or organisational information.
H. Health
Looking after your and others mental, spiritual, and physical health is vital. Helping others through volunteering or making a phone call, enables you to feel valued and grounded at a time when life might seem to be spinning out of control. It can also be a smart way to expand networks, build skills and enhance your resume, while providing a sense of purpose.

You’re braver than you believe,
and stronger than you seem,
and smarter than you think.”
